I tested out another batch of hair conditioner today. I made some scented with tango mango and the other scented with ginger. Both smell really great! I added panthenol, silk protein, honeyquat, and dimethicone to boost the benefits for your hair.
I also made a small batch of oil-free body butter. I am still trying to figure out the benefit of this type of body butter: oil-free verses made from oils. Any one know why people would want one or the other? I have to say I am really impressed with the body butter. It is very light and absorbs very quickly.
Hi Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI'm a high school student taking Chemistry. My teacher asked us to come up with an experiment in which we compare commercial soap to the soap we made ourselves in lab a few weeks ago. I'd like to know if you have any ideas that could help me...like, properties of each soap that I could compare?
I'm totally intrigued by your conditioner. Will have to check it out when you're ready to sell. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to know...how do you get your soap to look like fluffy frosting (like on a cake) on the top? That is amazing!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the point of a oil free body butter? So that it doesn't feel too oily and soaks right in? Sounds perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteI love making my own hair conditioner. And, it's shocking how inexpensive it is to make (says this former Pantene Addict).
ReplyDeleteHigh School Student,
I'd recommend doing something around lather (size of bubbles, stability of bubbles) and how your hands feel after washing (dry, smooth, moisturized) and start with that.
I really like the conditioner. I don't think I like the ginger scent as much as the mango though. I am going to check out the conditioner to see how "clean"/free of bacteria it is to make sure I am working under safe conditions and if that all checks out well, keep an eye out for conditioner in my stores. I will be sure to update you all on the blog.
ReplyDeleteHigh school student: I hope the suggestions I sent you were useful. I would love to hear how it went!
My fluffy "frosting" is made by allowing the soap to get to a thick trace and then spread the top layer on like frosting. Or I let the soap sit for a bit in the mold till it thickens a bit and then I use a whisk to make the fluffy peaks.
Charlie: You are probably right...that is the point of oil-free body butter. I have to say I am really liking it. I added rose EO to it and have been using it on my face. I love how it absorbs really quickly and does not leave my face sticky.
